Volunteers

Our events and our national team depend on volunteers. There is a role for every skill set.

Volunteers

Kickboxing GB greatly relies on the dedication and commitment of volunteers to efficiently manage its events and the National team at home and abroad.

Volunteers play a crucial role in various aspects, including the coordination of essential medical checks during summer camps, the execution of national team administrative tasks, and the seamless operation of events, which includes managing crucial roles like table staff responsible for scoring and timekeeping during competition bouts.

We deeply value the contributions of these selfless individuals, as they are essential to the success of our organisation and the experiences of our athletes. If you’re interested in becoming more involved and being a part of our vibrant community, please feel free to reach out to any of the following contacts who are eager to connect and welcome you to our team.

DBS checks — a mandatory requirement for all volunteers

From 1 September 2026, changes to UK law have widened the legal definition of regulated activity with children. The supervision exemption has been removed — an assistant coach or volunteer can now be undertaking regulated activity even when supervised. As a result, a DBS check is a mandatory requirement for all Kickboxing GB volunteers. No volunteer role is exempt.

The frequency threshold has also changed. Regulated activity now covers anyone working with children on more than 3 days in any 30-day period — that is, 4 or more days — and the days are counted across all clubs, schools and organisations where a person works or volunteers, not just within Kickboxing GB.

Where a volunteer falls within the new definition, an Enhanced DBS check with a check of the children’s barred lists may be requested. This is possible under the new rules but is not automatic — it depends on the activity the volunteer actually carries out.

All volunteers and clubs should review their arrangements against the new rules. Read the government guidance, and see our safeguarding pages for how Kickboxing GB applies these requirements.
