The Bristol Open returned to Clifton College’s Chellaram Sports Ground from 23–25 October, welcoming nearly 2,000 entries from 17 countries for three fantastic days of competition.
From rookies stepping onto the competition mats for the first time to experienced internationals, the weekend brought together athletes of all ages and abilities. Across Points Fighting, Light Contact, Kick Light, Forms and Tag Teams, there was an incredible mix of talent, determination and team spirit.
Friday opened with Advanced Light Contact and Kick Light alongside the Tag Team events, creating a lively atmosphere from the outset. Saturday saw a packed day of Points Fighting and Forms, before Sunday rounded off the weekend with Rookie and Intermediate Light Contact and Kick Light, alongside the Points Grand Champion competition.
For organisers Andy Cleeves and Sean Veira, the ambition has always been to make the Bristol Open more than a tournament. This year’s woodland mini-festival area, with food vendors, music and space to socialise, helped create a welcoming experience for competitors, coaches and families from across the UK and overseas.

Just as important as the medals were the moments of personal growth: a nervous first-time competitor finding their confidence, teammates supporting one another, and athletes showing respect through both victory and defeat. These are the experiences that demonstrate the wider value of WAKO Kickboxing.
The event was made possible by the enormous effort of the referees, table officials, facilitators, volunteers, hospitality team and everyone working behind the scenes. Their commitment, alongside the support of visiting clubs and coaches, helped make the weekend a brilliant celebration of the sport.
